Mr & Mrs Clark are creatures occupied by Marega Palser and Gareth Clark who are inspired by people and situations, and images by artists like Paula Rego, Diane Arbus and Francis Bacon. The Clarks were conceived at Experimentica 2001 where they took root in a box, aided by a bottle of tequila, they sang in a jukebox style quite well, then very badly to unsuspecting punters in the bar. Since their conception the Clarks have visited New York entertaining in a toilet in Hells Kitchen and promenading the boards of Coney Island. Among some of the incarnations, the Clarks have been tour guides for Banana Bus Tours, spent several evenings in a bath full of noodles and spread the message “Enjoy Life” and “Have Fun” in the guise of a Nun and a priest. It was with these characters that the dance theatre piece “The Agony and The Tragedy of Enjoying Life and Having Fun Show” was developed and was selected for the Dance Roads international tour 2006. Adventures in The Sitting Room was the Clarks second show made for theatre, but like most of their work, it started as a human installation at Tactile Bosch. The show was developed with the support of The Arts Council of Wales, Chapter Arts Centre and Welsh Independent Dance and has been performed at the South Bank Centre in London and in Europe. “Cabba Hey” was the second Arts Council Funded theatre piece and has been conceived to be performed anywhere. 2009 has seen The Clarks direct the Show “Walk The Dead Dog” and devise a piece for the Wales Millennium Centre entitled “Bezerkus” with a further musical collaboration on the go with Volcano Theatre Company.
